'Kempense Beemden' Trail Network

The Kempense Beemden (Kempen low-lying pasture near water) Trail Network provides 325 kilometres of walking pleasure in the municipalities of Grobbendonk, Lille, Vorselaar and Zandhoven. This trail network is located in Lille south of the E34, complementing the Kempense Hoven Trail Network in which North Lille was already included. Now you can walk to your heart's content throughout Lille using the numbered-node trail network.

The name refers to the flat, watery setting. Besides the photogenic rivers Kleine Nete and Aa, numerous canals and streams meander through the landscape. The characteristic low-lying pasture landscape consists of wet meadows, hay meadows, swamp forests and reed beds. The humid valleys encourage very characteristic fauna and flora.

Furthermore, during your walk you will discover Kempen villages that have been the subjects of many songs, evocative mill sites, and a castle that looks like it came out of a fairy tale film or a forest where, eight centuries ago, the dukes of Brabant held grand hunting parties.

To fully enjoy this area, waterproof shoes or boots may well be essential.

The trail network map is sold at the town hall reception (payable in cash) and online via Kempen. The map costs €8.

4,855 red-and-white signs

The trail network is structured around nodes, just like the numbered-node cycle network. You simply follow the rectangular, red-and-white signs from node to node. The Province of Antwerp Tourist Board has placed no less than 4,855 of them. You can follow the signs in two directions.
