Together with our farmers, we've created an educational bike ride for children. The bike ride runs along the meadows of our villages and passes several farms. Along the way, children learn about agricultural and social issues.
Educational bike ride with fun rest stops along the way
During the bike ride, you will come across information boards drawn by illustrator Liesbet Slegers. The signs tell kids all kinds of things about agricultural and social topics such as road safety, litter, local produce, and the importance of bees. Along the route, there are some tourist rest points with a picnic table and play elements linked to the themes. We hope this initiative will give kids a better understanding of farming. Farmers are important in our daily lives, which is exactly what we want to highlight with this bike ride. 'On Tour with the Farmer' also reflects the municipality's ambition to put extra effort into tourism and rural development. For the project, we are working with the Farmers' Union, the Biebond Lille beekeepers' association, and local farmers. Two-thirds of the cost of the project is subsidised by LEADER, a European rural development grant programme.
