The Rooienkapel is located on the corner of Rooienkapel and Schoorstraat in Gierle. Dedicated to Our Lady's Visitation, the chapel is set in a small square planted with oak and beech trees. Originally, it was completely surrounded by a moat. The rectangular, brick chapel dates back to the late 16th century. In the 19th century, it was enlarged to the west. Above the entrance in the west facade is a niche with a statue of Our Lady and Child. The soberly plastered and painted interior possesses a barrel vault. The chapel was renovated in 1986. In 2005, the chapel was listed and is now a protected building.
