What are slow roads?
Slow roads are roadways, paths or links primarily intended for walkers and cyclists. These roads are often unknown, so they are little used. That's a shame, because they not only have an important recreational function to fulfil, they also offer a safe alternative for vulnerable road users such as schoolchildren.
Volunteers drew up an inventory of our slow roads under the guidance of the Regional Landscape. Based on this inventory, a short-term, medium-term, and long-term action plan was drawn up. The action plan comprises a selection of some carefully considered actions derived from a study of the inventory and is the result of citizen participation and a desirability and feasibility analysis carried out by the working group. The choice was based on the policy of the local authority and available budgets.
