The Lille Sweet Treat

In 2007, Chocolatier Peter Govaerts of Gofie's Ice-Cream and Chocolate Salon created a sweet treat at the request of Lille city council. The unique snack consists of marzipan, cream, and chocolate.

The previous biscuit, a shortbread, disappeared when the baker who prepared the confectionery retired. Suddenly, the community found itself without a treat, so the Lille Non-Profit Tourism Association contacted Peter Govaerts. The result is not just any biscuit, in fact, despite what you might think at first glance, it contains no biscuit at all.
The Lille Sweet Treat is a round treat with a layer of marzipan, an intermediate layer of cream and a bottom chocolate layer. The marzipan features the municipal name and logo.

The Lille Sweet Treat has more in common with a praline than a biscuit. It is not baked. The municipality's name and logo are stamped into the marzipan layer, after which a small blowtorch is used to caramelize it and give a unique roasted marzipan flavour. The cream is also prepared using artisan methods with quality butter, cream, and eggnog according to our own recipe.
All in all, it makes the Lille Sweet Treat a unique creation that isn't easy to imitate.
