Around 1925, August Verlinden started a brewery in the 'Latin School'. In 1929, his son Jozef took over the business. Den Tipsy became a household name in Gierle and the surrounding area and made Jozef so popular that it earned him the nickname 'Den Tipsy'. This beer was bottled in Gierle until 1955 and distributed by Hermans Brewery until 1970. At the initiative of the Lille town council, Den Tipsy was reintroduced in 2007. The beer is currently brewed and bottled at Du Bocq brewery.
Tipsy is a dark brown, sweet beer with a red glow and a light brown head. It has an overwhelming caramel aroma, with notes of dark fruit.
